Classroom Management
Classroom management is an important part of every classroom. It provides the structure, organization, and expectations that create an effective learning environment. In a mobile computing environment, where every student has their own personal computing device, the classroom dynamics change. Managing, is about “organizing people and things so that instruction in group situations will be effective” (Wallen, 1978). It is not only important to organize the students in the classroom, but the “things” as well. In a mobile computing environment, one of the “things” to manage is the devices. This requires the establishment of additional classroom procedures and policies. In a mobile teaching and learning environment, it is important for the instructor to make clear the expectations for the use of the mobile computing devices in their classroom. Failure to do so will likely increase the amount of confusion and frustration for the students and the instructor.
